For Light Night Leeds 2024 we stepped into the fantastical world of The BookBinder. In a unique collaboration with The British Library, this spellbinding fairytale figure conjured magic from the remarkable online British Library Flickr collection. Visitors watched as bird, beast, boat and balloon were brought to life with an inky flick of needle and thread. This large-scale, inventive projection of animation and sound combined motion capture, archive and spectacle in a one of a kind piece. 

We were also delighted when Students from BA (Hons) Creative Writing were invited to write a response to The Bookbinder. The brief asked students to respond to The Bookbinder animation, in any form or style that could be read aloud in under 60 seconds. You can see the winning poem by Mimi Smith below..
